So From the main menu for this documentary, there will be a number of selections that can be made. there will be the main documentary titled - "What does Howitt mean to you?" however there will also be an image of each person from the documentary which will allow you to see their full interview. whereas the main one will be split up as the main questions with everyone then answering it.

What does Howitt mean to you?

So the title of my documentary has turned into "What does Howitt mean to you?" I decided that this is an appropriate titles as the questions i will be asking reflect this particular question. The generic questions will include

Who are you?

Where are you from?

What is your position in Howitt?

What do you enjoy most about communal living?

What annoys you about a communal environment?

However depending how the other questions go, i will asking specific questions that relate to the individual. For example "why do they have _______ in their room?"

From my test interview with Gordo i managed to get a 7 minute edited piece. i find the whole thing to be interesting, however that may be because i know him. You depending on how other people react to the piece, i may have to cut it back a little bit. I hope to make the documentary approx 90 mins, so if each person was to have 7 minutes of video, then i need at least 12 people to interview, maybe more, depending if i cut back the clips to be less than 7 minutes.

Interview

this is part of the first interview i did. i had trouble rendering the whole 5 minutes, so here is 1:45 worth of film. it is edited so that the question comes up on screen and then the person answers. i did it this way so that the person is not directly talking to me, they are talking to the audience.

Questions

Who are you?

Where are you from?

What is your position in Howitt?

What do you enjoy most about communal living?

What annoys you about a communal environment?

these four questions will be common to everyone. after these questions there will be questions relating to the person specifically, such as why do you have _______ in your room?

Howitt Hall Documentary

BRIEF

I am going to create a documentary at Howitt hall which is one of the Monash university halls of residence. The documentary will look at the positives and negatives of communal living as well as the vast differences of people that live in Howitt Hall. This documentary will be in two parts. The first will be interviews with a number of residents. They will be asked questions such as: who they are, where they are from, what they enjoy about communal living, what they dislike etc etc, there will also be questions that are individual to them as they will relate to the room they are in. The second part of the documentary will be a take on animal documentaries. This will involve filming everyday situations and then adding in a voice over.

CONTEXT

My audience is most likely to be residents of Howitt hall. However I hope that it will be entertaining enough that others would enjoy watching it also. My aim is that you do not need to know about living in a residence to find this documentary entertaining. I also hope that you do not need to personally know the people involved in the documentary to enjoy watching it.

MEDIA

The media that is considered is a mix of film along with vector artwork and stills.

OUTCOME

The finished work will be presented as an interactive DVD. This DVD could potentially be used as merchandise to sell in the Hall. Depending how it turns out it could also be used as potential promotion footage. This footage could be used during open day or other such events.

project 2

after a lot of thought, as well as discussions with others, i have decided to go with the documentary style. however instead of just sitting down with someone and asking them a bunch of questions, which would be extremely linear, i have decided to base mine like an actual animal documentary, like meerkat manor. i would still be dealing with the same communal living situations, however it would be just seeing the situations, as well as having them narrated.

Project 2

So for project 2 i have decided to make a film that looks at life in a communal environment. Seeing as i live at Howitt Hall at Monash Clayton, i thought this would be the perfect theme. the film would target issues such as conflicts that arise (noisy neigbours, stolen food, using other peoples belongings etc.) My first thought was to have the film acted out by a number of my friends and residents. however i felt that it may not be able to be pulled off seriously enough.

So as a second thought, i would make it into a documentary. the film would still deal with the same issues as previously thought, however they will be shown with peoples real opinions.

of course everyone knows of Michael Jackson...

yeah so as stated early my animation is of Michael Jackson. Famous for sing the words "it doesnt matter if you're black or white" yet miraculously he himself changes from black to white. however now also has scary lips, eye brows and a lack of a normal nose. so who would be more post human than MJ, well probably no one unless they were a zombie or a wolfman, however even then it is still likely to be a photo-finish.
an animation involving zombies was also a possibility as the corpse was once a human, however in its death form it has become post human.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombies

Astroboy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astroboy

Astroboy is another type of post human as he is a robot. however this is a completely different type of "post human", than the type i am focused on. as stated in the link on the post below Astroboy wouldn't in fact be post human, he would fit into the category of non-human.

Research Stuff

So here are the links that i checked out about post humanism etc.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posthuman_(Human_evolution)

this site basically outlines the difference between post human and non-human. post human refers to something that was once human were as non human never was. this aspect of post human is relevant to my animation as my view is that MJ was once human, however his cosmetic surgery etc has caused him to be post human.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanist
this link refers to human enhancement, both mental and physical.

Animation

So from my initial idea of humans being post-human in themselves, i created my animation to revolve around a central figure. in this case it turned out to be Michael Jackson. his abusive use of cosmetic surgery has had a dramatic effect on his life. So along with michael jackson and the cosmetic surgery i decided to use mobile phone, and mp3 technology as well. i am not saying that mobile phones and mp3 players have had a negative impact on our lives, they are just 2 other major technological changes of the last decade or so.

: : : Idea : : :

My idea is that, we as humans have now become post human with our vast exposure to many different types of technology. As consumers we have stayed in the game by buying the latest pieces of technology. However in doing so we have become somewhat like robots, as we like what we are told to like, and therefore we buy what we like.

FIRST POST!!!

So my favourite clip from the Digital Arts class would have to be the Ultralove Ninja. When i first watched it thought i t would have been very difficult to create. However it was pointed out to me in the studio class, that it in fact would be quite a lot easy to do than i had previously thought. Using a program such as after effects would allow you to create this type of animation. It could allow you to follow the action, as well as zoom in and out. a mask could also be placed of the images, and moved where ever is preferred in order to allow the picture to appear in parts. Anyway, i thought it was a really clever/simple was of making the animation. check it out at: http://media2.mk12.com/v5_qt_html/2002/ultralove.html
